CHERRY PICKED – BEN JUDD – EH HOLDEN

BEN JUDD – 1964 EH HOLDEN WAGON

High profile U.S industry stars Cherielynn Westrich from the hit U.S TV show Overhaulin’ and Ross McCombs, founder of Quick Time Bellhousings experienced their first Meguiar’s MotorEx, offering nothing but praise for the quality of the Australian show-car scene. Cherielynn also presented an award in her name, ‘Cherry Picked’ – which was her own personal favourite of the show. This novel award went to PRO EH owned by Ben Judd of Judds Auto Repairs.

“Having been to SEMA, GNRS and Motorama, MotorEx is now one of my Top Five shows,” says Cherielynn. “For Cherry Picked, I wanted a car that definitely represents Australia’s style of car building. A ride that could hold the attention of, and be appreciated by a worldwide audience. I look for attention to detail, style and hands-on builders – like the Judd’s! The paint was spectacular and the details were there, but the interior by Elite Custom Interiors really sealed the deal for me. They even installed retractable lap belts in blue to match the paint color.”

This sweet 1964 EH wagon has been in Judd family since 1978 – it was his mum’s car! Around 12 years ago, it was pulled off the road for a full rebuild. The wild interior that so impressed Cherielynn, is the work of Ben’s brother, Simon from Elite Custom Interiors. While a thoroughly modern, all-leather affair, (especially the floating front bench seat), it incorporates many original EH design elements – it’s very slick.

Under PRO EH’s hood is a stove-hot Holden 179/202 red motor topped with a super rare, one-of-25, Phil Irving head, plus triple side-draft 50mm Webers.

Rounding out the driveline is a three-speed Trimatic by Protrans and a shortened disc-brake VL diff. Before Exclusive Customs laid on the classic-looking blue duco, Ben completed plenty of metal surgery eliminating rust and modifying the underside to allow it to sit and drive oh-so-low. It’s definitely tucking plenty of rubber. Congratulations Ben on your Cherry Picked award!
