Following his epic win in the Il Bello Rosso/Maranello Racing Ferrari 458 in this year’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour, Craig Lowndes has secured a Ferrari drive for the famous Spa 24 Hour this upcoming July (23-27). “After our success at the Bathurst 12-Hour in February this year, I just knew we had to put something together,” said Lowndes.
Craig will be piloting a Ferrari 458 fielded by another Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour competitor, AF Corse (pictured below). And will be sharing driving duties with fellow Australian, Steve Wyatt (who headed up AF’s 2014 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour assault). The two remaining drivers in AF’s four-man driving squad has yet to be announced.
The Italian-based AF team are looking for a much better outing at Spa than what they had at Bathurst, where they failed to make Sunday’s grid after a major incident on Friday (above) followed by an even bigger crash on Saturday – which rendered the car unrepairable in time for Sunday. Lowndes has made no secret of his desire to compete at the 24-Hours of Le Mans. Securing a seat for Spa is a great stepping stone to making that dream a reality. Maranello Motorsport and Liqui-Moly Australia wish Craig all the best with this endeavour.
