This wild Morgan Aeromax will be the star attraction on the JB Hi-Fi stand at MotorEx Melbourne. This rare, V8-powered, pommy beast is 1-of-100 and was originally owned by Top Gear Hamster, Richard Hammond, as well as Aussie Superbike legend, Chris Vermuelen.
The Morgan Aeromax is the quintessential British sports car. In fact given its lightweight chassis and powerful V8, it’s a veritable supercar. Based on Morgan’s Aero 8, the hand-built Aeromax is designed to look like a luxury classic from the 30s. However don’t let looks fool you, under its superformed aluminium skin the wild-looking Aeromax is as modern as they come. The electrics, brakes, suspension, gearbox, differential and grunty, 270kW, 4.8-litre, V8 are all courtesy of BMW.
Morgan sold the limited run of 100 Aeromax’s by invitation only and insisted customers individually specify a number of aspects. Richard Hammond (of Top Gear fame), commissioned this one and it remains exactly how he ordered it; eye-catching silver paint, dark tan interior, black wheels, side-exit exhaust, six-speed manual and right hand drive. All of which makes it a very rare combination in an already rare machine. There’s only 6000km on the clock and it still bears the plaque, ‘Made for Richard Hammond.’
Hammond liked it so much, he had it incorporated in the book; Top Gear Supercars: The World’s Fastest Cars. It was later on-sold to legendary World Superbike racer, Chris Vermulan – this Aeromax’s second famous owner! When the Aussie ace hung up his helmet in Europe, he brought it back to Australia with him.
And now you can feast your eyes on this wild and wicked beast at MotorEx Melbourne, where it will be the star attraction on the JB Hi-Fi stand. We don’t want to give too much away, however the savvy audio install will incorporate two subwoofer magnets facing skywards under the barn door-style-opening rear windows. See it this weekend at Meguiar’s MotorEx Melbourne.
