Peter O’Donnell, has again entered his very successful GWS MotorSport BMW 335i for this weekend’s running of the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour. This all-conquering 335i has had an extremely successful career at the annual mountain enduro; having scored outright honours in 2007 and 2010 (where it beat a horde of supposedly superior 4WDs in torrential rain), along with Class D honours in 2013.

This will be Peter’s sixth start at the 12-hour and has managed a podium virtually every year, including two Class D wins – in 2009 aboard a BMW 130i and behind the wheel of this 335i for the 2013 victory. “I’ve always driven BMW’s and have never not finish,” says Peter. “Thanks to BMW’s durability and reliability, they’re always there at the twelfth hour.”

Co-driving the three-time Bathurst winner is two other Bathurst 12-hour stalwarts, Kean Booker and Allan Sheppard. All three are BMW devotees, with Allan, Kean and Peter having each raced a BMW M3 in the 24 hours of Nurburgring at one time, or ’other. Allan has also competed at every Bathurst 12-hour and 24-hour since their re-inception in 2002, while this is Kean’s fourth outing in the mountain enduro. Like Peter, both Allen and Kean have also taken out class honours in previous years. So there’s plenty of long distance pedigree within the GWS driver line-up.

Entered as #28 in Class D for 2014, the GWS MotorSport BMW 335i will unfortunately not be vying for outright honours against the much higher-specification Class A, GT3 racers. However given this car’s and driver’s Bathurst 12-Hour track record, you’d be a brave person to bet against them for class honours.
